Golf and Rugby to Join Olympics in 2016

The IOC has decided to add golf and rugby to the summer Olympic Games beginning with the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The golf competition will consist of a 72 hole stroke play tournament. 60 men and 60 women will compete for Olympic gold. Golf's last Olympic appearance came in 1904 at the St. Louis games.

The rugby competition will be a rugby sevens tournament of 12 teams. Both men and women will compete. Rugby sevens is a variation of rugby union, which has 15 players to a team. Rugby sevens is so named because its rules call for seven players to a side. Rugby's last Olympic appearance came in 1924 at the Paris games under the full 15 man-a-side union rules.
